With scholarships like the Edie Windsor Scholarship for women and gender-nonconforming individuals, Fullstack provides opportunities for diverse groups of people to learn and get hired in well-paying jobs in the tech sector. Empathy is always a top priority for instructors.

In January 2016, Fullstack also launched the Grace Hopper Program, which is an all-women and gender non-binary coding bootcamp located in NYC. It’s the first bootcamp of its kind in the U.S. to offer a deferred tuition model, meaning students pay tuition after they’ve graduated and gotten a job.

What Classes Are Available?

Fullstack Academy specializes in providing coursework in coding, cybersecurity, software engineering, and data analytics. For potential students interested in starting or changing careers into one of these areas, there are some comprehensive, award-winning options.

Fullstack bootcamps are nationally recognized and have won many awards in the past few years.Course Report has awarded Fullstack Academy Best Bootcamp every year starting in 2017. New in 2021, Course Report has also awarded Fullstack Academy Best Online Bootcamp and Best Cybersecurity Bootcamp recognitions. Switchup listed Fullstack Academy and the Grace Hopper Program as two of the best coding bootcamps to attend in 2020 and 2021 and has continued to list Fullstack academy among its top choices in the ensuing years.

Fullstack Academy’s flagship program, Full-Time Software Engineering Immersive, is a 16-week program that can accelerate or begin a career in software engineering. Bootcamp is divided into 4 units, each focusing on a different phase of the development process. During the Foundations phase, students work on the curriculum asynchronously, learning topics such as HTML, CSS, Advanced JavaScript Closure, and intro to front- and back end development. When they pass the final checkpoint, students move into the next phase of the process, where they work all day 5 days a week, and learn front end development, back end development, and databases.

The final phase brings the learning together in a team setting, with a 3-4 student-guided group project, a personal project, and a capstone project. By the time they graduate from the course, students will have three web applications and a Tech Talk to display in their software engineering portfolio.

Students also have the option to take this immersive bootcamp on a part-time flex basis, which offers an extended completion time of 28 weeks with the same rigorous coursework and regular live meeting times.

The Grace Hopper Program is an immersive coding course for women and non-binary students' without an up-front tuition expense. The goal is to help students make sure they “ don’t have to sacrifice valuable instruction in favor of a gender-allied learning community.” Individuals start the 16-week program with a remote Foundations phase for 4 weeks before attending the full-time online immersive training program for 13 weeks. The curriculum is identical to Fullstack Academy, which means students get the same award-winning content with the perk of paying tuition after you secure a job post-graduation. This course also provides students with the mentorship and support they need to navigate the complexities of the job market and their role as software engineers.

Fullstack Academy offers two additional bootcamps: Cybersecurity Analytics Bootcamp and Data Analytics Bootcamp. During Cybersecurity Analytics Bootcamp, which runs between 11-26 weeks depending on how you choose to enroll, students learn about offensive and defensive cybersecurity skills with the goal of becoming a Cybersecurity Analyst. During Data Analytics Bootcamp, lasting from 10 to 26 weeks, students gain a foundational understanding of visualization and technology skills so they can begin careers in Data Analysis.

For those who aren’t sure if the bootcamps would be the right fit or individuals who want to learn about Fullstack’s teaching methods, there are free introductory-level courses available, including Intro to Coding, Intro to Cyber-Hacking/Hacking 101, Linux Command Line for Beginners, and Bootcamp Prep or Bootcamp Prep at Your Own Pace.

Class Formats

Because Fullstack Academy offers live online bootcamps, most of which have full-time and part-time scheduling options for students to choose from.

Students attending Full-Time Coding Bootcamp first complete a Fundamentals portion of the course online. Fundamental training lessons are completed asynchronously, and students have access to videos, workshops, and projects to complete, as well as a discussion forum and experienced mentor. This portion of bootcamp takes a minimum of 4 weeks to complete if students spend 15-30 hours on it per week - depending on skill level.

When they’re done with Fundamentals, students then begin the next phase and begin to take classes in live, online classroom sessions (with asynchronous homework assignments). Because of the full-time nature of the bootcamp, students meet online five full days per week. A learning-intensive 6-day per week schedule continues throughout the final phase of bootcamp. Although each full-time bootcamp is slightly different, students can expect to complete the course in 10-13 weeks.

Part-time flex students take the same Fundamentals portion of bootcamp, and then continue the program remotely with live meeting times during the afternoon and on weekends (with course schedules varying from bootcamp to bootcamp). Part-time flex bootcamp options vary between 24-26 weeks.

During both full- and part-time formats, students attend lectures, work in small groups of 3-4 students on projects, create their own tech and capstone projects, and interact with industry experts to learn skills and industry-standard practices.

Admissions Process

Fullstack Academy has a 3-step admissions process. Prior to completing the application, students have the option to take free prep courses like Intro to Coding, Hacking 101, and Bootcamp Prep, but it’s not required.

To apply to Fullstack, the first step students must take is to fill out the online application which takes about 30-45 minutes. Once you’ve submitted the application, you’ll receive an email with a link to take a 30-minute timed assessment. The second step is to take the assessment.

The third and final step for Web Development programs is an interview with an instructor or Fullstack grad. The interview is extended based on your application and score from the timed assessment. The focus is both technical and behavioral to see if you’ll be a good fit for the program. You’ll also complete a 75-minute Skype pair programming challenge during this step.

When you’re accepted, you can join any cohort within 6 months of your acceptance date. This allows you the flexibility to figure out which program is right for you and prepare for it.

The ideal time to apply is 2-3 months before the live online portion of your program of choice begins. This comfortably allows 2-3 weeks for the admissions process and 4-week Foundations pre-work portion of the program. For students starting as complete beginners, Fullstack notes that it often takes 3-5 months to prepare for the application.

If you don’t pass the assessment or don't get accepted on your first try, Fullstack recommends candidates study an additional 2 months before reapplying to allow for ample time to learn the material and give themselves the best chance at success.

Pricing & Payment Options

Fullstack Academy has several payment options. Depending on the program, tuition ranges between $14,500 and $17,910. All students pay an enrollment deposit when accepted, but there are multiple payment options to fund the rest.

The pay upfront option means that students make the enrollment deposit, and pay the remaining tuition before classes begin. You have the option to finance through a personal loan and make monthly payments. Fullstack doesn’t endorse or promote any lenders, but they do have a couple listed on the website for reference.

If you’re a full-time employee, it’s worth seeing if your employer offers tuition assistance. Sometimes employers will pay part or all of a training program cost if you’ll be able to develop within the company. Depending on where you live, there also may be government assistance available to help cover costs.

There are also scholarships available for veterans through the VET TEC program, low-income New Yorkers through the CyberNYC Fellowship, and women & gender-nonconforming individuals through the Edie Windsor and Ada Lovelace scholarships.

Fullstack Academy is committed to bringing diversity and inclusion to the tech space, especially with the Grace Hopper Program, during which students don’t pay tuition. If admitted, you pay tuition once you obtain a job in the industry.

Career Support Services

Fullstack Academy offers a dedicated career success team to help graduates during the interview process, as well as providing networking opportunities, resume help, and negotiation tips. Each student has the opportunity to attend workshops, utilize 1:1 office hours, and have phone calls with their career coach before big interviews.

The Grace Hopper program also offers career support services tailored to the challenges and unique perspectives of women and non-binary students entering the field of software engineering, in addition to more career-oriented services like mock interviews and resume coaching.

It was a founding member of the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting (CIRR) to which it submits and completes public outcomes reports regularly. It was also a founding member of the Workforce Talent Educators Association (WTEA) and regularly releases graduate outcomes data through WTEA’s rigorous Workforce Outcomes Review process

There’s a reason Fullstack is so transparent: it has a lot to be proud of. More than 1,500 companies from start-ups to large tech firms hire Fullstack grads. Alumni tend to have higher starting salaries than the median industry income, especially in the fields of Web Development and Cybersecurity. On average, a Fullstack graduate in the field of Software Engineering Immersive makes $83,000 starting out.

What Do Students Say?

After completing their program, Fullstack Academy students have the option to leave reviews on bootcamp rating and review websites. This helps potential students see a real-life student perspective while making the decision whether or not to apply.

In general, students have positive reviews of Fullstack Academy. Many students noted the “great curriculum,” which is rigorous and fast-paced but is also frequently updated to reflect current tech trends and needs. A common thread among reviews is that the “rigor of the content and workload were challenging but manageable.” Many reviewers also discussed how knowledgeable the instructors are, as well as how the entire staff at Fullstack “truly cares about your success.” Other positive comments included the eye-opening experience of working with such a culturally and professionally diverse group of people, as well as workshops and checkpoints throughout bootcamp.
