Select an Email, Account Name, and Password for Your Account

You can create an AWS account by going to aws.amazon.com and selecting Create an AWS Account. Prospective users enter the email address to use with their account and create an account name. Note that if you create an AWS account for personal use, it’s best to provide a personal email address instead of a work email since changing jobs would make it difficult to access the account afterward. After the email address and account name have been chosen and submitted, you must verify the email address by entering the verification code sent to that address into the account. The account will redirect the user to a new screen to create an account password.

Creating the Password

The password must include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and non-alphabetic characters. Only share the login information with people who need access to the AWS account since this account will be associated with a credit card.

Adding Contact Information

New users must add contact information and choose the type of plan to use with AWS. Users can choose either a personal or business account, which affects how the account is billed.

If you are setting up a business account, the contact phone number must be a business number that can be reached if you (or the account holder, if it is someone else) are unavailable. Access requires two-factor authentication. Safeguard the contact information details for AWS Support to use when confirming the identity of the account.

Once you complete the contact form, you must select the checkbox to accept the terms of the AWS Customer Agreement. It is essential to read the terms of service before completing this section.

Adding a Payment Method

After adding contact information, enter your preferred credit or debit card payment method. The address for the payment method must match what the financial institution has on file for that account. Once the information has been verified, you can continue creating the account.

Confirming Your Identity

New users must verify their accounts through a text message or a phone call using the number linked to the account. Select Send SMS for the text message option, and then on the next screen, enter the code that is texted to you. 

If you choose the For Voice Call option, a code will pop up on your computer screen for you to enter when prompted by the automated voice verification system.

Selecting a Support Plan

The final step requires choosing a support plan for your AWS account. There are three support plan options.

Basic Support is the default option (recommended for new AWS users) and provides 24-hour self-service access daily for account and billing issues. This option is free and available for users unsure about which plan to select. Users can change their support tier later on if needed. 

Developer Support is the next level and costs $29 a month. This support level is designed for Web Developers using the platform and provides email support during traditional business hours with a 12-hour response time.

Business Support is the highest level available and costs $100 a month, providing 24-hour, 7-day-a-week support through email, phone, or chat with a one-hour response turnaround.
