When you look at Premiere Pro classes, you need to consider many different factors in choosing the class that works best for you. An important one is time; how long will the class take to complete? The answer to that question depends on the class that you pick, but in general, you’ll find both short and long Premiere Pro classes, and the longer the class, the more content it will cover. Keep reading for more information about some of the most common types of Premiere Pro classes, and how long each takes to finish.

What is Premiere Pro?

Adobe Premiere Pro is a widely used video editing application. It contains many different tools for editing audio and video and for working with special effects. First released in 1991 under the name “Premiere,” this application quickly became very popular and has become an industry-standard. In U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Video Editing Software of 2024” list, with the author noting “If you want the best video editing experience you can get, Adobe Premiere Pro is the way to go.” It is available from Adobe, by monthly subscription.

Lengths of Premiere Pro Classes

Premiere Pro classes can take anywhere from hours to years to complete. In general, the longer the class, the more you’re going to learn. Most shorter classes are focused on basic skills, while longer ones typically cover advanced skills and may also cover a number of other video editing skills. The choice about which class to select will depend on how much time you have to devote to learning and how much you want to learn.

Introductory Classes

One of the shortest types of Premiere Pro classes is an introductory class. Some introductory classes only take a day to complete. Others might be spread out over a few days. Either way, they are relatively short. These classes are usually designed for beginners and they are a good way to learn the basics of Premiere Pro and get comfortable enough to start working on your own projects. Keep in mind that since these classes are short, they don’t cover everything. If you want to learn more than the basics, you’ll need to spend time learning on your own or sign up for another class.

Advanced Courses

Some schools also offer advanced Premiere Pro courses, which are similar in length to introductory classes but are focused on advanced skills. Most advanced classes have prerequisites; in order to take one, you’ll need to have already mastered the basics of Premiere Pro. An advanced course is a good way to learn advanced Premier Pro skills in only a few days, but it won’t work if you’re a beginner, and it usually won’t be as comprehensive as something like a bootcamp or certificate program.

Premiere Pro Bootcamps

A Premiere Pro bootcamp is a popular option for students who want to get a comprehensive education in a relatively short amount of time. Bootcamps are immersive, accelerated courses focused on giving you all the skills you need to work in your chosen field, and doing so as quickly as possible. Because they are career-focused, bootcamps often include a range of different types of career support such as help creating a resume and portfolio, practice job interviews, and access to internships or professional networks. Most bootcamps take a number of weeks or months to complete. Some come in both part-time and full-time options,

Degree Programs

The longest and most comprehensive way to learn Premiere Pro is by earning a college degree in a field like video editing, where Premiere Pro is used. Programs like this take a number of years to complete, and cover a wide range of topics including theory and practical skills. You’ll learn about things like film history, videography, screenwriting, and audio technology, and you’ll leave with a strong foundation in Premiere Pro, in addition to many other video editing skills.

On-Demand Classes

The length of time that it takes to complete an on-demand class often depends on you. Most on-demand classes will give you an estimate of how long it will take to finish all the coursework, however, with these types of classes, you work through the course material at your own pace, which means that you can work quickly or slowly. Some people progress through these classes quickly, gaining a lot of knowledge in a short amount of time. However, because there is so much freedom to set your own schedule, other students struggle to stay motivated and when this happens, it can take much longer to finish. In some cases, students get busy or sidetracked and never even reach the end of an on-demand course.

Part-Time or Full-Time?

Another thing that will impact your learning time is whether you choose to enroll in a full-time or part-time class. A full-time class is the quickest option. With this route, learning becomes your primary occupation; you focus most of your time and energy on completing your class. While this can be difficult, it allows you to finish your education as quickly as possible. For some people though, a full-time course is not a viable option. For instance, many people need to also devote time to a job. If you can’t learn Premiere Pro full-time, you can learn part-time instead. A part-time program will take longer to complete, however, there are some advantages to part-time study. One of the biggest is that you’ll have more time to practice and develop your skills and work on your portfolio. This can be an advantage if you’re planning to use your Premiere Pro skills to transition to a new job because it can help you stand out from other job applicants.
