Applying Paragraph & Character Styles

Using the Paragraph & Character Style Panels

  1. Select some text you want to style.
  2. Depending on want you want to style:

    • Open the Paragraph Styles panel (Type > Paragraph Styles).
    • Open the Character Styles panel (Type > Character Styles).
  3. Click on a style name to apply it.

Using Quick Apply to Apply Styles

While Quick Apply can be used to quickly access InCopy features such as menu items, one great use of Quick Apply is to find and apply styles based on their names. Using keyboard shortcuts, you can narrow a list of styles down to the one you want and apply it. Here’s how:

  3. Start typing the name of a style. For instance:

    • Type by to get to the byline style.

    • Type nam to get to the author name style. (See how it doesn’t have to be the beginning of the style name!)

NOTE: Notice that styles are not the only things listed in the Quick Apply panel? If you want to limit the list to only paragraph styles type p: before the name, or c: for character styles.

  4. Press Return (Mac) or Enter (Windows) to apply that style.
