WordPress enables you to create and maintain a website, even if you have no web design background or knowledge of the code that makes website works. Whether you want to create a new website/blog or manage an existing WordPress website, this class is for you. This course is geared for anyone, so you do not need prior experience with computer graphics or coding.

40% of all websites are made with WordPress because it provides loads of functionality and the ability to create themes (templates) to control the look and feel and functionality of a website. In this class you’ll learn how to create pages, edit content, and see how you (or the people you make websites for) will interact with WordPress when creating and editing content.

WordPress is a popular CMS (Content Management System), originally created to host blog content. Today, many companies use WordPress to build and host custom websites, that include a company blog. BBC News, TechCrunch, and The New Yorker are just a few brands that use WordPress to host their blog.

For the average consumer, most people use WordPress.com, a website that you can log into to create and manage your website. For $300 annually, WordPress.com will host a completely custom website for your brand. However, developers have access to additional tools.

Through WordPress.org, developers can download the free, open-source WordPress software to create custom WordPress websites that are easily managed via the powerful WordPress CMS. With WordPress.org, a developer can create a custom WordPress theme, and host it on their private server free of charge. The client can then manage the website through the WordPress CMS without knowing any code.

With WordPress, you can create powerful websites that host the following features:
