Located in Los Angeles, BeachCoders is a coding school with live onsite programs. Beach Coders offers 4-week, part-time, programs that include front-end web design, advanced front-end, and UX design. BeachCoders offers students an opportunity to code along with an instructor to gain confidence, and to develop a high-quality portfolio of projects to share with future employers. Their 4-week programs teach front-end web development, user experience design, and advanced full-stack web development. Courses are offered live, online, or as 1-on-1 private training.

In-person learning with BeachCoders is available at their single location in Manhattan Beach, California. The campus is less than two miles from the beach and is surrounded by many parks, coffee shops, and restaurants that students can take advantage of during their coursework.

What Classes Are Available?

BeachCoders Academy offers four distinct coding programs that can either be taken online or in-person. Each program is a stand-alone certificate course, but they can be taken together in a specific order if the student wants to enroll in all four courses at once. BeachCoders recommends that students begin with their Codewave and/or Ultimate UX courses. From there, students can enroll in Codewave.JS before taking on more complex algorithms with Codewave.DS.

Codewave is a front end web development course designed specifically for beginners. By the end of the course, students will know how to code and develop content for the web. Participants will also build a portfolio throughout the course that they can take with them and use to demonstrate their skills to potential employers. Ultimate UX is designed to teach students how to develop websites and media that users will understand and enjoy. Additionally, the final week of this course focuses on critiques of individual projects and teaching students what employers look for.

Codewave.JS and Codewave.DS are more advanced courses intended for experienced web developers who want to enhance their skills and move up in their careers. The final weeks of both courses include a capstone project where students build an application including a database, server, and front end framework.

Class Formats

The programs at BeachCoders are offered both in-person and live online depending on the needs of each student. In-person classes have two to six students per class, but there are also flexible 1-on-1 options available for in-person learning as well. The courses are part-time and each one lasts for four weeks; if students want to take all four courses at once, this can be accomplished in 8-12 weeks. Classes meet on weekdays in morning, afternoon, or evening schedules. All live online classes are taught in a 1-on-1 format.

Admissions Process

There is no formal application or admissions process at BeachCoders. The school encourages anyone interested and motivated to attend! There are no requirements for admission other than the usage of your laptop and a knowledge of basic computer skills. BeachCoders does not require a high school diploma or college degree for enrollment, but students are encouraged to keep in mind that potential employers may require at least a high school diploma.

Pricing & Payment Options

Whether you participate in-person or online, all of the courses offered at BeachCoders are $2,477 for four weeks of training. Students can pay the full tuition upfront or divide the cost into four weekly payments. If neither of these options works, BeachCoders also offers students the option to participate in an Income Share Agreement which allows them to defer tuition payments until they are hired. ISAs do not accrue interest and payments automatically stop if you lose your job for any reason.

What Do Students Say?

Former BeachCoders students have shared their impressions of the program on various review websites. Several students were pleasantly surprised by how much they were able to learn in a short period. Even beginners felt that they were able to immediately apply what they learned and felt remarkably prepared for a career. The courses are described as affordable and flexible, and many students appreciated the hands-on activities offered in every class rather than listening to lectures. The amount of individualized attention provided to each student was also mentioned as a highlight of the school several times.

Some students did feel that they needed to spend a disproportionate amount of time studying outside of class to not fall behind in their coursework. Many students described the amount of material as “daunting,” but these students also recognize that the same would be true of most coding bootcamps, especially for beginners who are relatively unfamiliar with the material.
