Based in Barcelona, Spain, allWomen is a tech academy created by women, for women. All instructors are women, and the school recruits women students with various skill levels. Laura Fernandez, the Chief Executive Officer of allWomen, co-founded the company in 2018 with Cecilia Tham to offer women opportunities to level up their skills in a safe and supportive learning environment. The idea for the school came from a desire to see women build the same types of influential connections that men traditionally have in the business world.

As Fernandez wrote in a blog post about the company’s founding, “throughout our history, men have done business with each other. And not just in the sense of economic exchanges but also by creating influential relationships, establishing strong connections, and sharing interests between each other.” Fernandez’s goal as co-founder was to create similar but more inclusive and collaborative networks.

Today, allWomen boasts a community of over 30,000 women and has formed partnerships with leading companies such as Adidas and Nestle. Students who go through their programs not only learn tech skills but also gain access to job readiness training and other networking opportunities, thanks to the company’s strong partnerships with women tech workers and employers worldwide.

School Locations

The courses offered at allWomen can all be accessed 100% remotely. Students who are local to Barcelona can attend courses and networking activities onsite at the allWomen campus, located in the former Olympic Village on the coast of the Mediterranean. Those outside of Barcelona can access live online instruction and sometimes student meetups. Lessons are always recorded so that students can revisit them to review or catch up with missed sessions.

Subjects Taught at allWomen

Students at allWomen have the option of learning several different tech subjects. The roster of programs available at allWomen includes data science and data analytics, UX/UI, product management, and web development.

What Classes Are Available?

A total of six different courses are available at allWomen for women who are interested in entering varying tech fields.

The data science course is an immersive learning experience for students that will teach them both the hard and soft skills needed to work successfully on a data science team. Students can take the course on a full-time (10 weeks) or part-time (24 weeks) schedule. The course begins with introductory Python programming as it relates to exploratory data analysis. From there, students learn Python for statistics and probability. Machine learning algorithms and natural language processing are also a significant part of the curriculum. The course concludes with students’ building a data science portfolio project.

The web development program is a full-time (10 weeks) or part-time (24 weeks) course in which students develop the skills of a full stack application developer. The course involves 40 hours of pre-work, which includes HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics. After students have gotten up to speed, students work with React, Redux, and APIs, learning algorithms, data structures, and other essential facets of web development and team project development. The final segment of the course is dedicated to creating a final portfolio project that students can use on the job market.

The data analytics training runs part-time for 12 weeks and teaches the fundamentals of data analysis and how to interpret data to answer relevant questions. A total of 10 hours of pre-work involves learning Python fundamentals, including using the language for data visualization. After that, students work through 12 units covering data analysis with Python, machine learning algorithms, SQL, and a final project.

The UX/UI design course at allWomen teaches students the process of designing from a human-centered perspective part-time over 10 weeks. The class addresses the technical aspects of design. It opens with several hours of foundational work, which prepares students to develop a design mindset and become familiar with design tools such as Adobe XD. Another 100 hours are dedicated to topics such as designing for interactivity, testing and prototyping, learning how to identify the target user and market, and working through a design sprint. The course closes with a presentation as students learn to pitch their product.

Content Design and UX Writing is another part-time allWomen offering that those interested in UX/UI design can pursue. In the run-up to the main course, students learn the principles of design and draft the project that they plan to focus on later in the course. Once the course is underway, learners can expect to gain experience with research methods, content strategy and design, and even search engine optimization (SEO). After nine units of instruction, students will then present the project they started in the early stages of the course.

Finally, students interested in bringing products to market can take advantage of allWomen’s top-rated part-time product management bootcamp. This 10-unit course takes students from introductory product management through product delivery and includes product analysis, pitching, problem-solving, frameworks, and career development. The class also helps students evaluate how their own professional background can be of value in the product management space. At the culmination of the bootcamp, students will present a final project.

Class Formats

Students who wish to enroll in courses at allWomen can take courses live online or onsite. Classes on campus are held in Barcelona.

For students who prefer online options or are not local to Barcelona, all courses are available 100% online and are presented live. Classes can be accessed from anywhere in the world and are recorded to be viewed again later. Although the school is based in Spain and accepts international students, all courses are held in English.

In terms of schedules, the courses are formatted so that students who put more time into the courses will get more out of the courses. Product management, UX/UI, and data analytics courses are held two days a week from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central European Time (CET). The part-time data science course is held two days a week from 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CET. However, those who enroll in the full-time courses should expect to be in class Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. CET.

Students are responsible for any assigned pre-work and must access it, complete it, and submit it before the course’s start date.

Admissions Process

Recruitment into allWomen courses is a serious but holistic process. The school believes that a student’s attitude and drive will determine the bulk of their success. Therefore, entrance into their programs involves several preliminary conversations with school staff.

To begin the enrollment process, prospective students must apply for the course they are interested in taking. Then, someone from allWomen will call the applicant for a quick five-minute discussion by phone. After the phone discussion, the applicant and a representative from the school will have a face-to-face interview online or, for those who are local, in person.

After these first steps, the school will have the applicant perform an assessment. This assessment will evaluate the applicant’s technical skill levels before beginning their program of choice. Once the results of the evaluation are in, the prospective student will meet with school representatives to go over the assessment.

From there, the successful student is approved for enrollment and will gain access to any of the requisite pre-work. After completing and submitting the pre-work (before the course’s start date), the student will meet their classmates and others within the organization on Day Zero.

Pricing & Payment Options

The tuition schedule at allWomen varies based on the type of course. The school offers payment plans and a discounted rate if students pay in full at the outset or take advantage of early registration. There is even an opportunity for students to earn referral discounts if they bring a friend.

The Data Science and Web Development courses are €6950 ($7,400). Students who pay in full will receive a €500 discount. Early registrants who pay in full can receive a €1000 discount. This price is applicable for both the full-time and part-time options. The UX/UI Design, Content Design & UX Writing, and Product Management programs are each €2950 ($3100). Lastly, the Data Analytics course is €3475 ($3700).

For prospective students who cannot pay the total cost of tuition at once, payment plans and other financing arrangements are available. These options range from no- or low-interest plans to “study now, pay later” options. allWomen has partnered with select lenders that can offer students funding for their bootcamp of choice, and eligible students may defer loan payments until after completing their course and finding employment in their field. International and Spanish students can also take advantage of allWomen’s own selection of internal financing options.

For students who may need financial assistance with their training, allWomen offers scholarships. The criteria to qualify for these scholarships include women who are unemployed or have low income, women who are caretakers, and marginalized genders (including trans and nonbinary students identifying with women), ethnicities, sexualities, and disabilities. The rewards are issued on a case-by-case basis and based on availability.

Career Support Services

A key feature of allWomen’s reputation is its commitment to educating women and helping them develop their careers after graduation. The school has created several initiatives to assist women during the transition from students to employees in the tech workplace. Demo Days offer students practice by allowing them to pitch the projects they’ve worked on to others in the allWomen community. The company also hosts a Hiring Day where students can network with companies recruiting for tech positions.

Students at allWomen can also participate in career advising services, working with counselors to revise their resume and LinkedIn profile and practice their elevator pitches. Each course also includes a final project that becomes a part of the student’s portfolio to assist in their job hunt.
