I was really impressed by the instructors’ knowledge of the subject matter, I thought the teaching method was very effective (instructor demonstrates the lesson while students watch, then students do the same lesson), and the exercises were interesting and well-designed. I started working on designing and developing a website for a personal project, so I took a number of web design courses at Noble. Since I was going to so many of them, I decided to get the Web Design and Web Development certificates. Every roadblock along the way I was able to overcome with the assistance of the Noble instructors (and there were quite a few roadblocks). During the time I was in the Web Design and Web Development certificate program, I attended the meetup at Noble where the design and development extraordinaire Dan Rodney would give feedback and assistance to students working on their own projects. I want to give a special shout-out to Dan for giving me so much good feedback and assistance, and to this day I’m still happy with the way BOAST: Best of Astoria (a WordPress site I built) looks. After I received the Web Design and Development certificates, I felt confident in developing websites, and I successfully did that for a number of clients. I really like learning and improving as a designer, so I was not done at Noble after the Web Design and Development certificates. I took Sketch in a Day, and that was directly useful in being hired at IBM as they asked if I had experience with Sketch. I was also quite interested in motion and animation, so I completed the Web Animation certificate. I’m glad I took those courses since I have been working on animation projects at work, and I feel comfortable using those programs thanks to Noble. As a production designer in the marketing department at IBM, sometimes I have to be able to work very quickly and produce assets in the best way possible. Because I attended a number of seminars and classes at Noble, I learned many best practices for design and development and became confident in using many of the graphics programs. Now across the many projects I work on at IBM, which range from print, to environmental, to presentation, to digital, to social, I have the belief that I can handle anything that comes my way, and much of that confidence stems from the seminars and courses I took at Noble. Yes, you will be expected to complete 5–10 hours of work outside of class. You’ll be practicing the skills learned in class, coding your own website(s), and developing a portfolio of work.
Noble’s typical class ranges from 8–12 students, but we accept up to 20 students.
We have scheduled the certificate classes in various tracks (day, night, or weekend) for your convenience, but you can customize your schedule.
When creating a custom schedule, you’ll be able to choose between the various available dates for each class in the certificate program. So if you can’t make a particular class, you can choose a different scheduled instance that works better for you. You’ll still need to take the courses in the recommended order as shown above, with the following exceptions:
We focus on teaching professional skills that people can use right away in real-world jobs. To keep class prices low, we do not offer formal job placement services. However, in this Web & Visual Design Certificate, in two classes (Visual Design Bootcamp and Web Design Portfolio Development), you will work on portfolio designs and your portfolio website that you can show prospective employers or clients. The Web Design Portfolio Development class also discusses tips and best practices for generating client work and positioning yourself for employment.
We don’t know of any schools that offer job placement at this price point. Programs with job placement are much more expensive. If you're considering one, be sure to read all their fine print to see what you will be required to do and if there are ways they can exclude you (such as missing a class or not fulfilling one of their other requirements).
Not having to worry about job placement statistics frees us to accept all students. Anyone who wants to learn at Noble, can. Some of our students want to learn a topic well enough to get a job in the industry (full time or freelance), others are already working in the industry or a related industry and want to add skills, others want to be able to communicate better with people in the industry. No matter what your goals are, you are welcome at Noble Desktop.
Even though we don’t offer formal job placement, we aim to give students practical and valuable skills they can apply to real-world jobs. We teach a lot in a short amount of time, to prepare students as best we can with skills applicable to full-time or freelance work. We want you to succeed!
Yes, this course is open to beginners. Students must be comfortable using a computer. No other prior knowledge is required.
