Learn about the importance of User Names in InCopy, how to check and set your User Name, and understand the functionality it provides in collaborative work environments.
This exercise is excerpted from past InCopy training materials and is compatible with InCopy updates through 2021. To learn current skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and graphic design, check out our graphic design classes in NYC and live online.
Note: These materials are provided to give prospective students a sense of how we structure our class exercises and supplementary materials. During the course, you will get access to the accompanying class files, live instructor demonstrations, and hands-on instruction.
Setting Your User Name
User Names are important for InCopy because multiple people work on files. The user name is stored when each person leaves a note, makes a trackable change, etc. The first time you use InCopy and start editing text, it will ask what user name you’d like to choose. Aside from that, here are some things you may need to know how to do.
Checking the User Name
You may need to check the current User Name. For example, if you change to someone else’s computer you may want to temporarily change the User Name so people know you made that Note or change.
Go to Window > Assignments.
-
At the bottom left of the panel, the User Name is displayed.
As shown below, the User Name is Ned Editor.
Setting the User Name
- If you have any documents open, close them all.
- Go into the File menu and choose User.
-
Enter a unique User Name and Color. Click OK.
Setting the User Name in the Assignments Panel
Open the Assignments panel (Window > Assignments).
At the top right of the panel, click the panel menu button to open the menu.
- From that panel menu, choose User.
