  • What the various apps do
  • Ways to learn

How to Get Adobe Creative Cloud

Choosing the Right Plan

Use Across Computers

  • You can log into Creative Cloud on 2 computers at the same time (Mac or Windows).
  • For example: you can use it on a laptop and a home desktop.
  • You can only be signed into 2 at the same time, but you can sign out of one, and into another (as many times as you need).

What You Get In Creative Cloud

Creative Cloud Apps

  • Creative Cloud apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.).
  • They are not web apps, they are installed on your Mac or PC.
  • Use the Creative Cloud Desktop app to download and install the apps included in your subscription onto your Mac or PC.
  • Get mobile apps (such as Photoshop or Illustrator for iPad) on your device’s app store.
  • If you’ve used the Creative Suite, think of Creative Cloud apps as updated versions of those same apps.

Adobe Fonts

  • Every Creative Cloud plan includes Adobe Fonts, which has thousands of fonts.
  • Can be used in any app on your computer (not just Adobe apps).
  • Use the fonts in professional or personal projects for web, print, digital, etc.
  • Would cost thousands of dollars if purchased on their own.
  • Only want Adobe Fonts? Get InCopy, which is the cheapest single app plan.

Adobe Portfolio

  • Adobe Portfolio is web hosting for your portfolio.
  • Use your own domain name (purchased separately).
  • Photographers can use their Lightroom photos.
  • Integrates with Behance (a social media platform for designers).

Adobe Stock

Cloud Services

  • All plans include some Creative Cloud storage.
  • In most apps you can save files locally, or to the cloud.
  • This storage can be used similarly to Dropbox, Google Drive, etc., but some apps (such as Adobe XD) have certain features that only work with cloud documents.
  • Creative Cloud libraries allow you to share and use assets (colors, styles, graphics, etc) across Creative Cloud apps.
  • Creative Cloud libraries can be shared with others.
  • Your cloud libraries, fonts, etc. sync across your computers.

What Do Creative Cloud Apps Do?

Photoshop

  • The industry-standard photo editing & graphic design app.
  • It’s extremely versatile and used across many industries:
    web, video, print, photography, etc.
  • Improve photos with retouching, color correction, compositing (putting multiple photos together), and so much more.
  • Create designs for social media, web, print, video, and more.
  • Create animated GIFs for email marketing, social media, etc.
  • Design graphics and animate them in After Effects.

Example: Patterns

Patterns are used in websites, apps, print, video, fashion design, and all types of graphic design.

Example: Packaging

Illustrator is heavily used in packaging design.

InDesign

  • The industry-standard page layout and design app.
  • With excellent typographic tools, InDesign is good for combining text and graphics.
  • With features to manage multiple pages, InDesign is king of long documents such as books, magazines, brochures, catalogs, etc.
  • It’s mainly used for print, but is very good at creating PDFs.
  • InDesign Classes

After Effects

  • The industry-standard motion graphics, animation, digital compositing, and visual effects app.
  • Animate designs, logos, infographics, composite video, remove green screens, add visual effects to video, and more.
  • Combine graphics, video, sound, and animation to create compelling videos.

  • Import video, music, sound, voice over, graphics, then put them into a timeline (sequence) and edit out the unwanted parts to create a compelling final video.

Adobe XD

  • A new generation digital design tool used to design the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of digital products such as websites, apps, and more.
  • XD competes with similar apps from other companies such as Figma and Sketch.
  • You can get started with a free plan, but there are limitations.
Paid plans do not have those limitations.
  • You can animate directly within Adobe XD, and there’s an export to After Effects for more complex animations.
  • Adobe XD Classes

Example: UI & UX Design

Design, prototype, and animate digital products such as websites & apps.

Lightroom

  • Lightroom Classic is the original Lightroom app which many pro photographers use.
  • Lightroom is a newer simplified app which requires your photos to be stored online (in your Creative Cloud storage).
  • Lightroom Classic works with photos stored locally. You can sync selected photos do access them via the Lightroom mobile app (for iPhone, iPad, & Android).
  • Lightroom Classic Classes
